An undulating 1K climb starting at the eastern base of the alpine ski area and winding up a combination of 6 ski runs to finish at the summit, just west of the Legends on the Hill Restaurant. There is a modest 300 ft in elevation gain making this hill climb an accessible event for the new hill climber. The course, especially the finish area is spectator friendly.

Half Marathon

A gorgeous and eclectic course that begins near the North Clubhouse. It follows a combination of fairway forests, dirt service roads before entering the Headwaters Conservancy single track at three miles. The Headwaters single track takes runners on an intimate path near the Sturgeon River. Runners leave the Headwaters Conservancy and crossing Whitmarsh Road into the Project Nature lands. Here runners will again visit tranquil single track along the Sturgeon River, challenging climbs up to high ridges overlooking the river valley as well as some fast sections along dirt forest road. After a six mile tour of the Project Nature lands runners return via alternative single track through the Headwaters Conservancy and back to the finish via fairway forests.
Half Marathon Start: 9:00 a.m. Sunday, November 4, 2018 Treetops North Clubhouse/Campus. Map

Aid Stations

The 5K and Hill Climb will have aid at the finish. The half marathon will feature aid stations at 4 and 9 miles. All runners in the half marathon are required to carry a functional hydration system that can be refilled.  Volunteers will have large pitchers with cold water and cold Gnarly Hydrate Drink with electrolytes to quickly refill your hydration system. Honey Stinger Energy Gels and Hammer Nutrition Endurolytes will be available at each aid station.

Time Limits

There is a four hour time limit for the half marathon. This is strictly enforced for safety reasons and the remote nature of the race course. Do not register if you cannot finish in four hours. Aid stations will close at the times listed in the table below. Runners who decide to drop out of the race are advised to drop out at an aid station where transportation back to the North Clubhouse will be available. A sweep runner will follow the last runner, thus closing the race course.

Creating a Positive Experience

The Treetops Trifecta is run on immensely beautiful trails and terrain. To ensure a good race experience, you must be well trained. Expect very challenging, hilly and technical terrain. Bring a refillable hydration system if you are running the half marathon. It is a requirement to participate in the race. Aid stations are up to 5 miles apart. To ensure that you have plenty of fluids and energy, we suggest you refill at each aid station. Energy Gel and Endurolytes will also be available at all aid stations.

Please do not litter. Runners who litter will be disqualified. A volunteer at each aid station will be glad to take any litter you may have and/or transport something back to the finish line for you to pick up later.

For runner safety, bikes are not allowed on the course during the race (except for GLE volunteers).

Dogs are not allowed in Treetops Lodging Facilities. Dogs are allowed in the start/finish area, but not on the race course. Dogs must be current on rabies and all other vaccinations. Dogs may not be left unattended at any time, must be quiet, and on a leash no more than 6 foot. All animal waste must be picked up.

For runner safety, we advise against the use of iPods.

Environmental Measures

  1. Ecological fabric race shirts.
  2. Each runner must carry a functional hydration system or a minimum 20oz water bottle. There are no cups at the aid stations. Cups are wasteful, end up in landfills, and don't work very well at hydrating runners. There is less spillage and better hydration for runners (access to fluid between aid stations).
  3. Food served after the event are either locally produced, organically grown, or both.
  4. Food waste is composted and all other materials are recycled.
  5. Course is marked with reusable flags that are removed after the event.
