Navarino Snowshoe Adventure Navarino Nature Center Shiocton, Wisconsin February 27, 2010 The Navarino Wildlife Refuge features some of the best snowshoe terrain in the midwest. Dedicated groomed trails for snowshoeing symbiose beautifully with off trail terrain including such pleasures as bog drifts and winding routes through pine forest, oak savannah, and tall grass prairie.

 

Registration

Online registration or in person registration at the Navarino Nature Center on race day (February 27,2010).

Purpose

Proceeds from this race support environmental education programs at the Navarino Nature Center(NNC). The race also supports local and organic farmers by purchasing food locally or from organic producers.

All events start in the open space just to the west of the Navarino Nature Center. The 5 Km and 10 Km race courses are 75% groomed trail through oak and pine forest and 25% single track packed trail winding through bog and spruce forest with some rolling hills. The tour features 50% groomed trail and 50% scenic trail to unique locations with the wildlife refuge. The 800 meter course is a flat groomed trail through tall grass prairie.

Race Fees

Race fees include gourmet organic foods lunch prepared by Lois Bressette of Great Lakes Endurance. Extra lunch tickets are $10 each and can be ordered during online registration or purchased on race day. Please register early to help us with planning for the lunch.

No refunds or transfers. Once you are registered your entry fee is not refundable nor can you transfer your entry to another snowshoer. $25 charge for cancelled and NSF checks.

Registration & Packet Pick Up

Early registration is encouraged to help us plan for food & supplies; however participants may still register Saturday morning from 8:30 - 9:45 AM at the Navarino Nature Center. Pre-registered participants may also pick up their race materials at this time. Snowshoe rentals available at the Navarino Nature Center (Payable on event day).

Awards

Awards will be given to the top three in each age group for each race except for the tour. Overall male and female winners in the 10 Km will receive a pair of Atlas Snowshoes. Winners of the 5 Km will receive a Mountain Hardware Jacket.

Post Race Lunch!

All snowshoers will be treated to a gourmet local & organic foods lunch prepared by Lois Bressette ofGreat Lakes Endurance.

  • Menu: Organic bean chili, hearty whole grain rolls, oatmeal cranberry cookies, hot apple cider, and locally roasted organic coffee.
  • Location Navarino Nature Center
  • Time 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM.
  • Cost Free to snowshoers. Guest tickets are $10 each and $6 for children 10 and under.
